Shopify Markets
Overview
Shopify Markets allows merchants to configure different selling experiences for specific countries, regions, customer groups, retail locations, or sales channels from a single Shopify store.
A Market can define:
The countries or regions included in the Market
The currency used by customers
The catalogs and pricing available to customers
Discounts
Domain and language
Taxes and duties
Shipping options and rates
For example, a merchant can create an Africa Market and include multiple countries within it. The merchant can then configure the currency, catalogs, taxes, shipping, and other settings that apply to customers in those countries.
Shopify also supports inherited settings, meaning a new Market can initially use settings from the store default or its parent Market and only customize the settings that need to be different.
Before creating a Market, it is important to understand the relationship between Market, Catalog, Currency, and Customer Order.
Market: A Market identifies a specific selling audience or geographic region.
For example:
Canada
United States
United Kingdom
Africa
A Market can contain one or multiple countries or regions.
Catalog: A Catalog controls which products are available in a Market and can define the prices for those products.
For example: Africa Market → Fittler Market Catalog
Item A
$50
Item B
$75
Item C
$100
Shopify applies the applicable catalog pricing when a customer in that Market purchases the item. Catalogs can also control product availability.
Currency: A Market can use a specific currency or local currencies.
For example: Canada Market → CAD, United States Market → USD
For a multi-country Market, Shopify can also use local currencies so customers in different countries see prices in their local currency.
Creating a Market
To create a Market, navigate to Menu → Markets. The Markets page displays the existing Markets and their current status.

Click Create market and enter a name for the Market. The Market name is used to identify the Market in the Shopify Admin.
Select the Market status:
Draft — Creates the Market without making it available to customers.
Active — Makes the Market available to customers once the required configuration is complete.

Shopify recommends configuring the Market and ensuring shipping rates are available before activating it.
Adding Countries or Regions to the Market
After entering the Market name, configure the countries or regions that belong to the Market.
In the Includes section, click Add condition.

Select Regions. Search for and select the required countries or regions. Click Done.

The selected countries are now associated with the Market. A country should belong to the appropriate Market before configuring shipping for that country.

Once the countries are selected, Shopify displays the settings for the Market. Some settings may initially appear under Inherited. This means the Market is using the configuration from the store default.
When you customize a setting, it moves from Inherited to Customized. This allows you to change only the settings that need to be different for the Market.
Configuring Currency
Currency determines the currency displayed to customers in the Market. Depending on the Market, you can configure a specific currency or use local currencies.
For example: The Use local currencies option allows customers to pay in the currency associated with their region.
Configuring Catalogs
This is particularly important when different Markets need different product pricing.
Under Customized, locate Catalogs. Click the + icon.
Select the Catalogs that should apply to the Market. You can also create a new catalog.

A Catalog determines which products are available to customers in the Market and what prices apply to those products.
Configuring Discounts
The Discounts setting allows you to configure which eligible discounts apply to the Market.
Locate Discounts. Click the + icon.
Select or configure the required discount settings. Click Done.
Discount behavior can vary depending on the type of discount and Market configuration.
Configuring Domain and Language
The Domain/language setting determines the domain and language experience associated with the Market. A Market can therefore provide a localized storefront experience for its customers.
Configuring Taxes and Duties
The Taxes and duties setting controls tax and duty behavior for the Market. Depending on the store configuration, options can include:
Sales tax
Duties and import tax
Tax display
Duty display
Shopify's Markets settings allow tax-inclusive pricing and duty collection to be customized by Market.

Setting Up Shipping for the Market
Creating a Market alone does not mean customers can place orders. The Market must have appropriate shipping configuration.
Setting Up Shipping Rates
Click on Manage Shipping. The user is navigated to the Shipping and delivery section.

Configure the shipping options for the selected Market by clicking Add a shipping option and selecting the required Rate Type.
