# Bill of Material

### **What is a Bill of Material (BOM)?**

A Bill of Material (BOM) serves as a comprehensive list detailing the raw materials, sub-assemblies, and labor required for manufacturing a specific item. It outlines the quantity, description, and specifications of each component essential for producing the final product. With BOMs, manufacturers gain insight into the materials consumed during the production process.

### **Features of BOM Module:**

* **Single-Level and Multi-Level BOMs:** XoroERP supports both Single-Level and Multi-Level BOMs.
 * **Single-Level BOM:** Lists all direct components or raw materials utilized in manufacturing a product.
 * **Multi-Level BOM:** Includes components that can be produced internally, along with sub-BOMs for such materials.
* **Creating a BOM:**
 * Users input essential details such as manufacture item number, BOM name, instructions, validity, and revision number.
 * Components, item quantities, and instructions are added to the BOM.
* **BOM Revisions:**
 * Allows continuous updates to BOM specifics throughout the product lifecycle.
 * Provides a historical log of revisions for analysis and cost monitoring.
 * Revisions can be created within the BOM module or via file upload.

### **Use Cases:**

1. **Efficient Product Lifecycle Management:**
 * Manufacturers can maintain an up-to-date BOM to ensure products are built efficiently and accurately.
 * Regular revisions enable monitoring of cost reductions and improvements in production processes.
2. **Streamlined Raw Material Updates:**
 * If changes occur in raw materials or quantities, users can utilize the "Update BOM Items" module.
 * This module offers flexibility in updating BOMs based on Bill of Material or Manufacturing Orders.
 * Selection of the appropriate update type, whether BOM or Manufacturer Orders, facilitates seamless updates to raw materials and quantities.
3. **Practical Application:**
 * Suppose a manufacturer decides to replace or modify a component within a product. By accessing the "Update BOM Items" module and selecting the BOM update type, they can efficiently modify the raw material items and quantities in the BOM.
 * In another scenario, if the production team needs to adjust raw material quantities for an ongoing manufacturing order, they can utilize the "Manufacture Orders" update type to swiftly update quantities within the related Manufacturing Orders, ensuring accurate inventory management and production scheduling.

By leveraging the capabilities of the BOM module in XoroERP, manufacturers can enhance efficiency, accuracy, and control throughout the production process, leading to improved product quality and cost-effectiveness.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.xorosoft.com/xoroerp-1/manufacturing/bill-of-material.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
