The Putaway submodule in the XoroWMS Receiving module is a crucial step in the warehouse management process, facilitating inventory transition from the receiving area to its designated storage locations. After items are received and placed in a staging location, the Putaway submodule helps organize and store these items efficiently, ensuring that inventory is accurately tracked and easily accessible when needed.
In a typical receiving workflow, items are first placed in a staging location within the warehouse. This staging area serves as a temporary holding spot for received goods before they are moved to their final storage locations. The Putaway submodule comes into play at this stage, guiding the movement of inventory from the staging location to the appropriate storage areas within the warehouse.
XoroWMS offers two primary options for executing the Putaway process:
System-Directed Putaway
User-Directed Putaway
Each method is designed to cater to different operational needs, providing flexibility and control over how inventory is organized within the warehouse.
The System-Directed Putaway option automates relocating inventory, minimizing manual input and ensuring that items are stored in the most efficient locations. Here's a step-by-step guide to how it works:
Stage Location and Pallet Identification:
Begin by entering the Stage Location where the received items are currently stored.
Identify the Pallet on which the items are placed.
Accept the Details:
Once the Stage Location and Pallet information are filled in, click Accept to confirm these details.
The system will then automatically direct you to the next step, guiding you through the process.
Final Storage Location:
On the subsequent screen, you will be prompted to enter the location name of the inventory that should be moved.
The system then completes the Putaway process by relocating the inventory to the specified location, and updating the system records accordingly.
This automated process reduces the potential for human error, optimizes storage utilization, and speeds up the overall Putaway process.
For operations that require more control or customization, the User-Directed Putaway option allows warehouse staff to manually direct the Putaway process. This method provides three distinct options or Putaway Types for moving inventory:
Putaway by ILPN: This option allows you to put away inventory based on the Inventory License Plate Number (ILPN), a unique identifier assigned to each pallet or container.
Putaway by Pallet: Move inventory items as per their designated Pallet, ensuring that entire pallets are stored together.
Putaway by Item: This option allows you to put away individual Items within a pallet or container, offering the most granular level of control.
In each of these options, users manually enter the required details, such as the final storage location, ensuring that inventory is organized according to specific operational needs.
XoroWMS also includes a feature for managing Virtual LPNs (License Plate Numbers). A Virtual LPN is used when items need to be moved from a physical pallet to a virtual container within the system.
Moving to a Virtual LPN:
When a pallet is transferred to a Virtual LPN, the items are picked from the physical pallet, and the system updates the Location Name in the Inventory by Location module to reflect this change.
The original pallet is then marked as empty, and the inventory is tracked under the new Virtual LPN.
This feature is particularly useful for managing complex inventory movements or consolidating items in a virtual space for easier tracking.
The Putaway submodule in XoroWMS includes built-in restrictions to ensure that inventory is accurately tracked and managed. These restrictions prevent over-allocation of items, pallets, or ILPNs, maintaining the integrity of the warehouse management system:
If you attempt to move more items, pallets, or ILPNs than what is registered in the system, an error message will be triggered.
This ensures that inventory levels remain consistent and prevents discrepancies that could lead to stockouts, overages, or misplaced inventory.
The Putaway submodule in XoroWMS is a vital tool for maintaining an organized and efficient warehouse. Whether using the automated System-Directed Putaway or the more customizable User-Directed Putaway, this feature helps ensure that inventory is stored accurately and efficiently. With additional capabilities like managing Virtual LPNs and built-in restrictions, XoroWMS provides a comprehensive solution for optimizing warehouse operations and ensuring that your inventory is always in the right place at the right time.
