The IP Restriction module in XoroERP is a crucial feature designed to enhance the security of your system by limiting access to specified IP addresses. This guide will cover the key features, fields, and use cases of the IP Restriction module, providing a detailed overview of how to utilize this tool effectively.
Key Features
IP Address Whitelisting:
The IP Restriction module allows administrators to create a specified list of IP addresses from which users are permitted to access the XoroERP system. This ensures that only authorized IP addresses can gain access, enhancing the overall security of the system.
Batch Delete Functionality:
For ease of management, the module includes a Batch Delete feature. This option enables administrators to select multiple IP addresses from the list and delete them simultaneously, streamlining the process of maintaining an updated and secure IP whitelist.
User-Specific IP Restrictions:
Administrators can restrict access for specific users based on their IP addresses. This feature is particularly useful for ensuring that users can only log in from trusted networks, thereby reducing the risk of unauthorized access.
Fields
IP Address: This field is where you input the IP address that you wish to allow or restrict. If you want to permit access from a specific IP address, you might enter something like "192.168.1.1".
Display Name: This field is used to assign a recognizable name to the IP address being added. This helps in identifying and managing IP addresses more easily. You could use a display name like "Head Office Network" for the IP address "192.168.1.1".
Add: This button is used to add the specified IP address to the whitelist. Once added, users can access the system from this IP address. After filling in the IP Address and Display Name fields, click "Add" to include the new IP address in your list.
Batch Delete:
Description: This option allows you to select multiple IP addresses and delete them in one action, simplifying the management of the whitelist.
Use Cases
Securing Access to Sensitive Information:
Scenario: A company wants to ensure that only employees within their corporate network can access the XoroERP system. They use the IP Restriction module to whitelist the IP addresses of their corporate offices. By doing so, they prevent unauthorized access from external networks, thereby securing sensitive business information.
Restricting Remote Access:
Scenario: An organization has noticed unusual login attempts from various IP addresses. To mitigate this risk, they use the IP Restriction module to whitelist only the IP addresses of known remote employees. This action restricts access to the system, ensuring that only authorized personnel can log in from their respective locations.
Temporary Access Management:
Scenario: During a system upgrade, a company wants to limit access to a specific set of IP addresses to ensure that only the IT team can access the system. They use the IP Restriction module to temporarily whitelist the IP addresses of the IT department, allowing them to carry out the upgrade without interference from other users.
By utilizing the IP Restriction module in XoroERP, businesses can enhance their security posture, ensure that only authorized users can access their system, and efficiently manage access permissions through easy-to-use features and functionalities.
